POEM: MY HIJAB
They say I am caged
Like a bird caged
They say I'm oppressed
That my right is suppressed
Some even say I have imprisoned my beauty
For that, they think I'm guilty They say I'm ugly
As they see me as unsightly How illogical!!!
They say the hijab covers my brain
But they are the ones that speak without brain
I know better than to listen to people that never attended Biology class
I am a cynosure among my peers
The scorn that comes with hijab
I shall bear coz my hijab is my identity
But I know, Yes, I know!
Allah said "Laqad khalaqnal insaana fee ahsani taqweem",
"We have certainly created man in the best of stature"
For this, I know I am beautiful
and My hijab is my companion
I know I'm beautiful
To this beauty, I'm dutiful
My hijab is my shield
I'm priceless
I can't act valueless
For valuable things are wrapped in garment of protection
Think of precious stones, well-hidden for conservation
My hijab is my conserver
They taunt me to expose my beauty
Like a public property
For them to fix their gazes
No! My hijab is my Protector
Allah said...do not display your beauty,
Except what is apparent ...
This command, I must obey strictly
Indeed, I am a model of modesty
My hijab is my pride
I am a companion of great muslims
Leaders, inventors, warriors, teachers
I'm in the story of pious predecessors
Following in their footsteps
My hijab is my strength
I am Maryam, the chaste mother of the prophet
I am Khadija, the mother of the faithfuls
I am Aisha, the prophet's beloved
I am the intelligent translator who knows the Quran and its meaning.
My hijab is my honour
I seek knowledge as if it were my lost property
I exercise patience for it is a road to victory
I spread kindness for my role model did
I am a muslim,
I wear the hijab
and I'm the light of the world
My hijab, my peace
